Futurist Jim Carroll believes that the key trend of 2010 is that organizations are now refocusing on growth instead of managing their way through a recession.
"I've been spending time at leadership meetings with clients such as Diners Club, the National Australian Bank, the US National Recreation and Parks Association and Signature Travel. The key theme for the leaders in each of these organizations has been: how do we stay ahead of extremely fast business model change, very rapid change in customer expectations, constantly shifting competitive challenges, and the disruptive business model change that is appearing from every corner."
What does this mean? According to Carroll, "if 2009 was about dealing with the challenges of the recession, 2010 has to be about focusing on growth, and how we turn all of these challenges into opportunity. The strategy being pursued by many organizations is how do we focus on future opportunities and looking forward, rather than looking at past challenges and where we've been."
