Leadership
Team-Building
Over the past 25 years Dick Vollet's career has covered a wide variety of business sectors, private, public and not for profit; allowing him to develop practical leadership skills in some of the most challenging and dynamic situations with exceptional results.
The most recent opportunity to put these skills to the test was with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games, as the VP Mountain Operations. The pressure of 3.0 billion T.V. viewers watching the results of 4 years of planning and preparation is enough to make anyone have a few sleepless nights.
The Olympic Games was one of the most intense and rewarding experiences of any professional career, where communication at a very high level was a key skill required to survive. The ability to listen effectively in very intense situations in order to make the right decision was critical, given most decisions made at the senior level during the Games period impacted thousands of people. The ability to maintain a high degree of integrity and trust with the people around you was integral to the team being successful; this took discipline and a great deal of commitment, not to mention a never quit attitude. The experience has allowed Vollet to develop a "no fear" approach to any business situation knowing anything is possible with the right people and a clear vision.
Prior to the Olympic Games his background was in the highly competitive Retail industry where customer service is the main differentiator between establishments winning and retaining customers. As Vice President Operations for a number of H.Y Louie Companies, including TLD Computers, Sonora Resorts, and London Drugs the ability to lead an organization strategically, while at the same time implement programs for future growth took a great deal of strategic thinking and clear vision. One of his personal success factors is the ability to lead a team, by building consensus and communicating a clear and concise vision of what the future looks like.
Vollet is currently President & CEO of Streetohome. Streetohome Foundation came to life in 2008 as a partnership between Vancouver Foundation, the City of Vancouver and the Province of British Columbia. Their goal is to tackle the problem of homelessness in Vancouver by creating safe, decent, affordable housing for those on the streets and those at risk in their city. Vollet is also currently a Director with the Downtown Vancouver Association. In the past, he served as a member of the Board of Governors with the BC Children's Hospital Foundation and Junior Achievement, on the Board of Advisors to Ronald McDonald House and volunteered with the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Vollet is a passionate and enthusiastic leader with a dynamic presentation style able to relate his experience to real world examples business leaders' face today. He has shared his experience at annual retail vendor conferences, and shared the stage with President Bill Clinton, Walter Cronkite and Tom Peters. His experience in the not for profit sector demonstrates a successful track record, as he chaired the Children's Hospital Miracle weekend two consecutive years raising over $23.0 million. The ability to articulate a clear vision of success for multiple committees across a variety of business sectors, takes an excellent communicator and a dedicated team.
